About 115 species in 10 genera are found in northern temperate and subtropical regions and in the Andes to southern Chile.

Hydrangea L.

Eighty species are found from the Himalayas to Japan, the Philippine Islands, and Java; in Atlantic North America and on the mountains of Central America to Chile.

Two cases of vesicular contact dermatitis in florists were reported by Apted (1973). The leaf and petal produced positive patch test reactions but tests in controls were not recorded.
